Emperor Watai

Japanese: 和帝 - わてい
Emperor Watai
79‐105
China, later Han The fourth emperor of the Han Dynasty. Reigned from 88 to 105. His surname was Liu Zhao. He was adopted by the Empress Dou of Emperor Zhang, and ascended to the throne at the age of seven. When Empress Dou came to the court, she invited the tyranny of her maternal relative, Dou Xian. As a result, with the help of the eunuchs, he eliminated the Dou faction and took control of the government himself. He worked to improve elections (appointments to officials), and had the candidates recommended inspected for their actual suitability. He revived the position of Protector of the Western Regions and appointed Ban Chao to this position. Over 50 states in the Western Regions submitted to him, and Ban Chao sent his subordinate Gan Ying to the state of Daqin, marking the period when the Later Han Dynasty's power was at its highest in foreign affairs.
