Ujigami Shrine - Ujigami Shrine

Located in Ujiyamada, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. The deities enshrined are Emperor Ojin, Ujinowakiiratsuko, and Emperor Nintoku. The Engishiki lists "two Uji shrines," and this shrine is identified with one of these, Kaminoyashiro, from which the name of the shrine originates. Shimoyashiro is Wakamiya (Rikyu Hachiman, present-day Uji Shrine) located in Uji Mataburi, Uji City, and is said to have been separated in 1883 (Meiji 16). Rikyu is also known as the former site of Ujinowakiiratsuko. Former prefectural shrine. Annual festival is held on May 8th. The main hall is said to have been built in the late Heian period, and is famous as the oldest surviving Nagare-zukuri style shrine building. The worship hall also retains its structure from the Kamakura period, and both are designated as national treasures. In 1994, it was registered as a World Heritage Site (World Heritage Site. The cultural assets of the ancient capital of Kyoto are a collective registration of 17 shrines, temples, and castles, including Kiyomizu-dera Temple).

京都府宇治市宇治山田に鎮座。祭神は応神(おうじん)天皇、菟道稚郎子(うじのわきいらつこ)、仁徳(にんとく)天皇。『延喜式(えんぎしき)』に「宇治神社二座」とあり、その一座である「上社(かみのやしろ)」に比定され、それが社名の由来となっている。「下社(しものやしろ)」は宇治市宇治又振(またぶり)に鎮座する若宮(離宮八幡(はちまん)、現在の宇治神社)で、1883年(明治16)に分社されたと伝える。離宮とは菟道稚郎子の旧址(きゅうし)ともいう。旧府社。例祭日は5月8日。本殿は平安後期の造営とされ、現存する最古の流造(ながれづくり)の神社建築として有名。また拝殿も鎌倉時代の遺構をよく残し、ともに国宝に指定されている。1994年(平成6)、世界遺産の文化遺産として登録された(世界文化遺産。古都京都の文化財は清水寺など17社寺・城が一括登録されている)。
