Wada Battle Woman Maizuru - Wada Battle Woman Maizuru
Ningyo joruri. Historical piece. Five acts. Written by Namiki Sosuke. First performed at the Toyotakeza Theater in March 1736 (Genbun 1). There is a popular legend that when Wada Yoshimori's clan was attacked by the Hojo clan, his third son, Asahina Saburo Yoshihide, a hero of superhuman strength, broke down the castle gates by himself, and this work replaces that legend with a female heroine of the same era, a wooden frame. It is said to have been influenced by the female heroine Toshi in "Hiyoku no Utena" (written by Ki Kaito) performed at the Toyotakeza Theater in July 1721 (Kyoho 6), but the main story and world are based on "Egara no Heita" (written by Chikamatsu Monzaemon, Takemotoza Theater, Osaka), which is estimated to have been written before January 1692 (Genroku 5).
