Wada Kyutaro

Japanese: 和田久太郎 - わだきゅうたろう

1893-1928 A social activist and haiku poet from the Meiji to early Showa periods.
Born on February 6, 1893. He studied haiku while working as a clerk at a stockbrokerage. He joined the anarchist movement led by Osugi Sakae and published the journal Labor Movement. In 1924, he attempted to assassinate Army General Fukuda Masataro in revenge for the Osugi massacre during the Great Kanto Earthquake, but failed and was sentenced to life imprisonment. He committed suicide while serving his sentence on February 20, 1928. He was 36 years old. He was from Hyogo Prefecture.

明治26年2月6日生まれ。株式仲買店の店員をしながら俳句をまなぶ。大杉栄(さかえ)らのアナーキズム運動にくわわり,「労働運動」を発行。関東大震災の際の大杉虐殺に復讐(ふくしゅう)するため,大正13年陸軍大将福田雅太郎(まさたろう)を狙撃(そげき)するが失敗,無期懲役となる。服役中の昭和3年2月20日自殺。36歳。兵庫県出身。
