Seven Hills of Rome - Septimontium

The seven hills on the east bank of the Tiber River that formed the foundations of ancient Rome: Quirinal, Viminal, Esquilinus, Caelius, Palatine, Aventine, and Capitoline (Capitol). In the 8th to 7th centuries BC, the Latins on the Palatine Hill and the Sabines on the Quirinal Hill formed the city-state of Rome, and the Capitoline Hill in between became a fortress and the lowlands at its base became a forum (square).

古代ローマの基礎となったテベレ川東岸の7つの丘。クイリナリス，ウィミナリス，エスクイリヌス，カエリウス，パラチヌス，アウェンチヌス，カピトリヌス (カピトル) をさす。前8～7世紀頃パラチヌス丘によるラテン人とクイリナリス丘によるサビニ人が都市国家ローマを形成し，その中間のカピトリヌス丘を城塞に，そのふもとの低地をフォールム (広場) として発展した。
