…The following story is told in the ancient legend of Nikko Futarasan Shrine. Nikko Gongen takes the form of a giant snake and always fought with Akagi Myojin over the ownership of the lake waters on the mountain, namely Lake Chuzenji, but Akagi Myojin was always defeated because he was a centipede. So he gave an arrow to Manji Manzaburo, a master hunter who lived at the foot of Nikko, and asked for his help. Manzaburo helped the god and shot both eyes of the giant centipede, the incarnation of Akagi Myojin, at Senjogahara, causing it to flee. …
