Cabora Bassa Dam

…It enters Mozambique, turns from east to southeast, and joins the Shire River, which drains Lake Malawi, and other rivers into the Indian Ocean. 80 km northwest of Tete is the Cabora Bassa Dam, which was completed in 1977, and the electricity generated by the dam is sent to the Republic of South Africa, providing a valuable source of foreign currency for Mozambique. The water level is generally highest in March and April and lowest in October and November.
