...Both adults and larvae are carnivorous. As their name suggests, the Scaritidae family of beetles has a strong constriction between the thorax and wings, giving them a gourd-like shape. Nearly 30 species have been recorded in Japan, and the giant S. sulcatus , which lives on the beach, can reach a maximum body length of 45 mm.
