Born: September 2, 1894. Brody, Galicia Died May 27, 1939. Paris Austrian novelist and critic. After studying philosophy and German literature at the University of Vienna, he served in the First World War. After being discharged, he became a journalist in Vienna and Berlin, and later became a correspondent for the Frankfurter Zeitung, writing articles from all over Europe. As he was Jewish, he went into exile after Hitler came to power in 1933. After moving from place to place, he settled in a hotel in Paris and continued his writing career. A unique writer who spent his whole life wandering, searching for the good old days and his hometown that he had lost. His major works include the novels Die Flucht ohne Ende (1927), Radetzkymarsch (32), and the essay Juden auf der Wanderschaft (27). Funnel |
