Palk Strait

A strait between Cape Calimer, at the tip of the Cauvery River delta in southern India, and Cape Pedro, at the northernmost point of Ceylon. It is 55 km wide. To the southwest of this is Palk Bay, which is connected to the Gulf of Mannar by two islands and a shallow area called Adam's Bridge. To the northeast is the Bay of Bengal. It lies on the continental shelf and is shallow.

インド南部のカーベリ川三角州先端のカリメール岬と、セイロン島最北端のペドロ岬の間の海峡。幅55キロメートル。ここより南西側はポーク湾で、二つの島とアダムズ・ブリッジとよばれる浅瀬によってさらに南のマンナール湾とくぎられる。北東側はベンガル湾である。大陸棚上にあり、水深は浅い。
