Born: 1480. Venice
[died] 1556. Italian painter from Loreto. He first studied under A. Previtale and then A. Vivarini. However, after going to Rome in 1509, he wandered around Bergamo (1526), Treviso (32), the Marche region (35), and other places, and occasionally returned to his hometown. His works show complex influences from Raphael, Correggio, Dürer, and later Giorgione and Palma Vecchio. Nevertheless, his individuality is clear even in the midst of these influences, and he developed his own style, which has a simple strength without being too detailed, based on a unique silver-gray color scheme. His portraits are particularly excellent, and are known for ``Portrait of Giuliano'' (National Gallery, London) and ``Portrait of a Lady as Lucrezia'' (same). He spent 1554 at the Santa Casa monastery in Loreto, and died there two years later.

(1) A specific unit of product produced at one time. Usually, when the quantity is not enough to produce continuously every day, a monthly or yearly production lot number is decided and production is repeated discontinuously. The minimum economical unit in terms of raw materials, equipment, personnel, etc. is the standard. This method is called lot production, and can be considered an intermediate form between individual production and mass production. (2) A number that indicates a group of products produced using the same raw materials and the same process in order to control product quality. Used especially for pharmaceutical, vaccine, and beverage concentrates.

(1) 1回に生産する特定数の製品の単位。普通には毎日連続して生産するほどの量でないとき，月産または年産のロット数を決めて，不連続に繰返し生産する。原料，設備，人員などからみた最小経済単位が基準。この方式をロット生産といい，個別生産と大量生産の中間形態といえる。 (2) 製品の質を管理するため，同一原料，同一工程で生産されたグループを示す番号。特に薬品，ワクチン，飲料の原液に使用。
