A type of plant motif. One end of the curved line curls inward like the tip of a bracken. In China, it was often used for roof tile patterns during the Han Dynasty. In Japan, it can be seen in the patterns of bronze bells and bronze swords from the Yayoi period, and is often depicted in murals of ancient tombs, especially in Kyushu. After the introduction of Buddhist culture, it was used on temples, pagodas, canopies, altars, lanterns, etc. It is also used as a decorative design on all crafts, including dyeing and weaving, metalwork, lacquerware, and ceramics, and is often combined with arabesque patterns.
