Rockoon

Japanese: ロックーン
Rockoon
A method in which an observation rocket is lifted to a high altitude (usually up to about 20,000 meters) by a balloon and then automatically launched from there to observe the upper atmosphere at altitudes of tens of thousands of meters. "Rockoon" is a combination of the words "rocket" and "balloon." In Japan, 19 launches were carried out by the University of Tokyo's Institute of Industrial Science from 1956 to 1961, and high-altitude observations were conducted. This method is no longer used today.
