Roozeboom - Hendrik Willem Bakhuis Roozeboom

Dutch physical chemist. He became assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Leiden, then lecturer, and then professor of chemistry at the University of Amsterdam (1896). He was one of the first chemists to actually apply the phase rule published by Gibbs in 1876 to the study of equilibria in heterogeneous systems, and represented these equilibria using two- and three-dimensional graphs. The concept of equilibrium in homogeneous systems was particularly applied to the study of alloys, and was very successful. He contributed to popularizing the phase rule, which was not well known at the time, among chemists.

オランダの物理化学者。ライデン大学の化学の助手から講師になり、ついでアムステルダム大学の化学教授になった（1896）。彼は、1876年にギブスが発表した相律を、初めて実際に不均一系の平衡の研究に応用した化学者の一人であり、この平衡を二次元や三次元のグラフを使って表した。均一系の平衡の概念はとくに合金の研究に応用され、成果をもたらした。まだあまり知られていなかった相律を化学者の間に広めるのに貢献した。
