〘Noun〙 (Congo red)⸨Congo red⸩ An azo dye synthesized as a direct dye. Chemical formula: C32H22O6N6S2Na2 . A water -soluble dark red powder. Invented by P. Boettiger of Germany in 1884. Dyes cotton, rayon , silk , wool, etc. bright red. Resistant to washing and alkali, but weak to sunlight and acid. It was also used for dyeing paper and as an indicator, but is no longer used today because the intermediate benzidine is a carcinogen. Congo red. 〘名〙 (Congo red)⸨コンゴレッド⸩ 直接染料として合成されたアゾ染料。化学式 C32H22O6N6S2Na2 水溶性の暗赤色粉末。一八八四年、ドイツのP=ベッティガーが発明。木綿・レーヨン・絹・羊毛などを鮮赤色に染める。洗濯やアルカリには強いが、日光や酸に弱い。紙の染色、指示薬などにも用いられたが、中間物のベンジジンが発癌物質のため、現在では用いられない。コンゴ赤。
