Bleeding from the female genitals (genital bleeding) can be physiological uterine bleeding (menstrual) or irregular (pathological). Irregular genital bleeding that is unrelated to menstruation is usually called irregular genital bleeding or irregular genital bleeding. Irregular genital bleeding is the most common and most important chief complaint encountered in daily clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology. There are many diseases for which irregular genital bleeding is the chief complaint, and it can be said that it covers the whole range of gynecological diseases, including malignant tumors. Looking at the diseases of patients with irregular genital bleeding as the chief complaint, without taking age into consideration, the most common are dysfunctional uterine bleeding, cervical cancer, uterine vaginal erosion, uterine fibroids, obstetric bleeding, vaginitis, and endometritis.

女性の性器からの出血(性器出血)には，生理的な子宮出血(月経)と不整(病的)なものとがある。通常，月経とは関係のない不規則な性器出血のことを性器不整(不正とも書く)出血または不整性器出血という。性器不整出血は産婦人科領域の日常診療で，高頻度に遭遇する最も重要な主訴である。　性器不整出血を主訴とする疾患は多く，悪性腫瘍を含む産婦人科疾患の全般にわたっているといえる。性器不整出血を主訴とする患者の疾患を，年齢を考慮しないでみると，機能性子宮出血，子宮頸癌，子宮腟部糜爛（びらん），子宮筋腫，産科的出血，腟炎や子宮内膜炎の頻度が高い。
