A peace treaty signed in 1699 between Austria, Russia, Poland, Venice and the Ottoman Empire as a result of the Austro-Turkish Wars at the end of the 17th century. Karlowitz is now the Croatian town of Sremski Karlovci. The Ottoman Empire returned most of the Hungarian and northern Balkan territories it had acquired through repeated invasions to the relevant countries, which led to the abandonment of its previous aggressive stance and the weakening of its power.
