Nakanoin Michimura - Nakanoin Michimura
Year of death: 29th February, 1653 (28th March, 1653)
Year of birth: January 26, 1588 (February 22, 1588)
A nobleman in the early Edo period. Son of Gon Chunagon Nakain Michikatsu. His mother was the daughter of Isshiki Sakyo no Daifu Yoshitsugu. In 1613 (Keicho 18), he was appointed Uchūjō, in 1619 he was appointed councilor, in 1617 he was appointed Gon Chunagon, in 1629 he was appointed Buke Densō, and in 1629 he was promoted to Gon Dainagon. He was highly trusted by Emperor Gomizunoo and tried to mediate between the Imperial Court and the shogunate, but in November of the same year, the Emperor suddenly abdicated in favor of Princess Okishi, and the shogunate dismissed him from his position as Buke Densō the following September for not reporting this to him in advance. In March of 1630, he was summoned to Edo and imprisoned at Kan'ei-ji Temple in Ueno until October. He was pardoned and returned to Kyoto thanks to the good offices of the monk Tenkai. In 1647 (Shohō 4), he became Naidaijin. Michimura excelled in calligraphy in the Sesonji school, and also held a leading position in the poetry circles of Emperor Gomizunoo in the early modern period. He lectured on the Tale of Genji at the Empress's palace on July 18, 1616, and from the 20th of the same month to Tokugawa Ieyasu, and from April 25 to May 9, 1617 to Emperor Gomizunoo. He fully demonstrated his abilities as the successor to the Genji studies established by his father Michikatsu, and gained the utmost trust as a member of the inner circle of court nobles who were close to Emperor Gomizunoo. He was buried at Rosanji Temple in Kyoto. He wrote the Nakanoin Michimura Diary. <References> Honda Keiko, "Emperor Gomizunoo's Imperial Court Academic Lectures" (Shoryobu Kiyo, No. 29), Mori Miwa, "Reorganization of the Inner Circle of the Imperial Court's Small Guard" (Nihonshi Kenkyu, No. 277)
