This was a campaign by the Muromachi Shogunate Shogun Yoshihisa Ashikaga and Yoshiki Ashikaga (Yoshitane) to subjugate Takayori Rokkaku, the guardian of Omi Province. It is also called the Chokyo-Entoku War. After the Onin War and Bunmei War, the Rokkaku clan and their vassals had seized manors, so the Shogunate sent troops to restore them. In 1487 (the first year of Chokyo), Shogun Yoshihisa decided to subjugate Takayori and sent former Kanrei Hosokawa Masamoto and others to Omi. Takayori and his men left their residence, Kannonji Castle (present-day Omihachiman City and Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture), entered the mountainous area of Koga County, and waged guerilla warfare. Yoshihisa himself marched to the Magari Siege in Omi (present-day Ritto City, Shiga Prefecture), but the battlefront became deadlocked, and in 1489 (Entoku 1), Yoshihisa, who had become addicted to alcohol and food, died of illness in the camp, and Takayori was pardoned. Yoshiki, the new Shogun who succeeded Yoshihisa, raised an army again to pursue Takayori in 1491 (Entoku 3). However, Takayori fled from Koga County to Ise Province, and the Shogunate forces withdrew from Omi Province. 室町幕府将軍の足利義尚(よしひさ)と足利義材(よしき)（義稙(よしたね)）が行った近江国守護の六角高頼(たかより)に対する討伐戦。〈長享・延徳(ちょうきょう・えんとく)の乱〉ともいう。応仁(おうにん)・文明の乱後，六角氏とその被官(ひかん)による荘園の押領(おうりょう)がはなはだしかったため，幕府がその回復を図るための出兵であった。1487年（長享１年）将軍義尚は高頼討伐を決定，前管領(かんれい)細川政元(まさもと)らを近江へ出陣させた。高頼らはその居城観音寺城（現滋賀県近江八幡市・東近江市）を出て，甲賀郡の山間部に入ってゲリラ戦を展開。義尚みずからも近江の鈎(まがり)の陣（現滋賀県栗東市）へ出陣したが，戦線は膠着(こうちゃく)状態となり，1489年（延徳１年）酒食に溺れた義尚が陣中で病没したため，高頼は赦免(しゃめん)された。義尚の跡を継いだ新将軍義材は，1491年（延徳３年）再び高頼追討の兵を挙げた。しかし高頼は甲賀郡から伊勢国へ逃れ，幕府軍は近江国から撤兵。この２度の失敗により，幕府の権威は大きく失墜した。→足利義稙
