Ro - Ro

Japanese:
Ro - Ro

A type of twill weave. Like gauze, a mojiri soko (furue) is used to cross two warp threads to weave in the weft, but after one twist, several weft threads are woven into the plain weave, and then woven into the mojiri weave again, and this process is repeated. Depending on the number of weft threads (koshi number) woven into the plain weave, it is called sanbonro (san (mi) koshi ro), gohonro (go (itsu) koshi ro), nanahonro, kyuhonro, etc. This creates gaps in the weave where the twist was made once, and horizontal stripes appear. This is called yokoro. On the other hand, if several warp threads are woven in a plain weave and the next two warp threads are woven in a twisted weave to create vertical gaps, vertical striped gaps will appear. This is called vertical brocade. Various variations on this basic weave include horalo and monro, as well as brocade crepe, which uses tightly twisted yarn. Usually, it is woven using raw silk and then kneaded, but there is also neriro, which uses yarn that has been pre-dyed. It is used mainly for summer clothing, including hitoe (single layer) clothing, hakama (trousers), haori (coats), and haneri (half collars).
