A method of agricultural management centered on crop rotation. It developed in the early 18th century in the Norfolk region of England as a four-field rotation, and spread to other areas. There are single-field rotations, which combine fields into one, and compound-field rotations, which combine fields into multiple. Compared to the earlier improved three-field farming method, the area planted with grasses is reduced, but the planting of root vegetables and legumes is increased, leading to an increase in the number of livestock kept. This also increases the productivity of manure, which helps improve soil fertility and increases crop production. → Related topics Agriculture | Dairy farming Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
