Year of death: 26th July 1855 (7th September 1855) Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. Shogunate official. Commonly known as Tetsutaro. Iwami no Kami. In December 1847, he was promoted from Nishimaru page guard to monk, and in August 1848 he became Nishimaru inspector, and in 1848 he became inspector and coastal defense officer. In April 1853 he became the Uraga magistrate. In June, the American fleet of Perry arrived in Uraga and demanded a letter from the shogun, so he was ordered to be in charge of reception. Together with fellow magistrate Toda Ujihide, he met with Perry in Kurihama as the representative of the shogunate, calling himself "Prince of Iwami," and received a personal letter from President Fillmore to the shogun. In December of the same year, he became oometsuke, coastal defense officer, and in 1854 he became inspector for military reform.
