[Judgment]
The results of the verdict are shown in Table 2. Of the 28 defendants, two, Matsuoka Yosuke and Nagano Osami, who died during the trial, and Okawa Shumei, who was found to be mentally ill, were acquitted. The text of the verdict was an enormous 1,200 pages long in English, but in addition to the main verdict by the majority, the dissenting opinions of Judge Radhabinod Pal of India, Judge Bert VARöling of the Netherlands, and Judge Henry Bernard of France, as well as separate opinions by Chief Judge William Flood Webb of Australia and Judge Heranilla of the Philippines, were also submitted to the Court. The verdict determined that the Charter of the Court is absolute and binding on the Court, that "crimes against peace" and "crimes against humanity" are not based on "ex post facto law" but are a codification of existing international law, and that the first charge, conspiracy to wage war of aggression, was proven with limitations on the territory to be controlled.
