Rayleigh-Jeans' law of radiation

This is one of the formulas that gives the energy u (λ) for each wavelength λ in cavity radiation, derived from classical physics. It only matches experiments for long wavelengths. This formula ( T is the absolute temperature of the cavity wall) was proposed semi-ad hoc by Rayleigh in 1900, criticizing the formula that W. Wien had presented. However, the values of the constants a and b were determined in 1905 based on an analogy with the vibrations of air inside a box and the Maxwell-Boltzmann law of equipartition of energy, and J. Jeans corrected the error in the value of b .
