American architect from what is now the Czech Republic. After studying at the Technical University in Prague, he moved to the US in 1916. He served as an assistant to FL Wright, and came to Japan with his teacher in 1919 to work on the construction of the Imperial Hotel. He opened an architectural firm in Tokyo and designed the Tokyo Woman's Christian University lecture chapel and St. Paul's Catholic Church in Karuizawa, among other buildings. He returned to the US in 1938, but returned to Japan again after World War II.
