Lemongrass is a grass family plant that is widely distributed throughout Southeast Asia, and like lemon balm, it has a distinctive lemon-like scent.
This scent is said to be more lemon-like than lemon itself, and is now used as an ingredient in artificial lemon flavoring.
It has also been used medicinally since ancient times as a sedative and carminative ( to expel gas accumulated in the intestinal tract).
In addition to aiding digestion, increasing appetite, and acting as a carminative, lemongrass also aids the parasympathetic nervous system and promotes mental harmony.
Specifically, it is effective for treating indigestion and summer fatigue.
○How to use externally: Aromatherapy effects include relieving irritation.
However, pregnant women and people with allergies should avoid using essential oils.
Lemongrass is an essential ingredient in Southeast Asian cuisine , especially the well-known Thai dish Tom Yum Goong, which cannot be made without it.
It goes well with garlic and chili peppers and is used to flavor seafood and meat, and when fresh it can also be fried and eaten.
Dried products tend to lose a lot of their aroma, so try to buy fresh ones if possible.

レモングラスは、東南アジア一帯に広く分布するイネ科の植物で、レモンバーム同様、レモンのような香りをもつのが特徴です。
　この香りはレモンよりもレモンらしいといわれ、現在では、人工のレモンフレーバーの材料に使われるほどです。
　また、薬用としても昔から、鎮静剤や駆風剤(くふうざい)（腸管内にたまったガスの排除）として用いられてきました。
　レモングラスには、消化促進、食欲増進、駆風といった作用のほか、副交感神経の働きを助けて、精神の調和をうながす働きもあります。
　具体的症状としては、消化不良、夏バテに有効です。
○外用としての使い方
　アロマ効果としてイライラの解消などがあります。
　ただし、妊娠中の人やアレルギー体質の人は、精油を使うのはひかえたほうがいいでしょう。
○食品としての使い方
　レモングラスは、東南アジア料理に欠かせない素材。とくに、代表的なタイ料理であるトム・ヤム・クンは、これがないとはじまりません。
　ニンニクやトウガラシと相性がよく、魚介類や肉の風味付けに使われるほか、フレッシュなものは油で揚げて食べたりもします。
　乾燥品は香りがいちだんと落ちるので、できれば生のものを買い求めるようにしてください。
