1748‐1827 A Danish politician and a large land-owning nobleman (Count). From a humanitarian perspective, he sought to educate and improve the status of peasants in his domain, as well as to carry out agricultural reform, abolishing harsh slavery, and opening a school on his domain. He became a bureaucrat in 1773, and although he left his post during the time of Chancellor Gruber, he later had influence on the agricultural reform committee, and became Chancellor of the Exchequer (1789-1813) and a Privy Councillor from 1797 onwards.
