[Born] 1524? San Severino [Died] August 1574. Fossombrone Italian physician and anatomist. He was also a professor of anatomy at the University of Rome and physician to the Pope. He was one of the founders of modern anatomy, and accurately described many parts of the body, including the Eustachian tube and the valves of the heart. In 1552, he completed the world's first copperplate anatomical atlas, which is noted for its beautiful depiction of the sympathetic nervous system. It was published in 1714 and translated into Japanese by Sugita Bairi at the end of the Edo period.
