Wang Changling

A Chinese poet from the prosperous Tang Dynasty. His pen name was Shaobo. He is said to have been born in Jingzhao (Xian, Shaanxi Province) or Jiangning (Nanjing, Jiangsu Province). He rose from the post of scholar to the position of governor of Fanshui (Henan Province), but he ignored etiquette and was demoted to the position of governor of Jiangning. During the An Lushan Rebellion, he fled back to his hometown, where he was killed by the governor, Luqiu Xiao. He was known as the "saint of seven-word quatrains" and was skilled in poems about border forts and family grudges. "Long clouds over the Qinghai Sea, the snowy mountains are dark, / A lonely city is visible in the distance, the Jade Gate Pass, / A hundred battles of yellow sand pierce the golden armor, / But I will never return unless I defeat Loulan" (military march). Five volumes of "Wang Changling's Anthology of Poems" and one volume of "Shige" are handed down.

中国、盛唐の詩人。字(あざな)は少伯。京兆(けいちょう)（陝西(せんせい)省西安(せいあん)市）あるいは江寧(こうねい)（江蘇(こうそ)省南京(ナンキン)市）の出身という。校書郎から氾水(はんすい)（河南省）の尉(い)となったが礼儀作法を無視し、江寧の丞(じょう)に左遷された。安禄山(あんろくざん)の乱のとき郷里に逃げ帰り、そこで刺史の閭丘暁(りょきゅうぎょう)に殺された。「七言絶句の聖人」と称され、辺塞(へんさい)や閨怨(けいえん)の詩に巧みであった。「青海長雲　雪山暗し／孤城遙(はる)かに望む　玉門関(ぎょくもんかん)／黄沙百戦　金甲を穿(うが)つも／楼蘭(ろうらん)を破(やぶ)らずんば終(つい)に還(かえ)らじ」（従軍行）。『王昌齢詩集』5巻、『詩格』1巻が伝わる。
