Located in the Mushanokoji Senke teahouse in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City, this is the family's representative teahouse. It is said to have been built in 1667 (Kanbun 7) when Ichio Soshu, the first head of the family, retired from government service. The current Kankyuan was rebuilt in 1926 (Taisho 15), but it is said to retain the style from when Ichio founded the teahouse. The interior is a one-tatami mat daime half-board, that is, a one-tatami mat for guests and a one-tatami mat for tea ceremony, with a wooden tatami mat about 5 sun (about 15 cm) wide. It has a geza-doko (low seat floor), a water room doko (a storage room for water), and a stepping board behind the tea room. A floor has been installed from the Konnichian, excluding the mukoita (front board), and the ingenious half-board design has been added to create a sense of spaciousness within the extreme spaciousness. The ceiling is covered with cattails except above the step, and the corners of the half-board wall are painted over to hide the pillars and make the room look spacious. The middle gate is called the Amigasa Gate, and it conveys the taste of the fourth generation Jokisai.
