Second Tomei and Meishin Expressways - Daini Toumei Meishin Expressway

Japanese: 第2東名･名神高速道路 - だいにとうめいめいしんこうそくどうろ

Formally, it is a road of about 502 km length consisting of the Second Tokai Expressway (Tokyo - Nagoya-Aida approx. 328 km) and the Kinki Expressway Nagoya-Kobe Line (Nagoya - Kobe approx. 174 km), and in light of the current situation where the current Tomei and Meishin Expressways, the largest arterial routes, are becoming saturated with increasing traffic despite the widening of some sections, the construction of this road was decided upon as a fundamental measure in 1987. The planned route runs mostly north of the current Tomei Expressway between Tokyo and Nagoya, and mostly south of the current Meishin Expressway between Nagoya and Kobe.

正式には第2東海自動車道(東京～名古屋会田約328km)と近畿自動車道名古屋神戸線(名古屋～神戸間約174km)よりなる約502kmの道路で，最大の動脈路である現東名･名神高速道路がその一部区間の拡幅にもかかわらず，増大する交通によって飽和しつつある現況に鑑み，1987年にその抜本的対策としてこの道路の整備が決定された。その予定ルートは東京～名古屋間ではおおむね現東名の北側，名古屋～神戸間ではおおむね現名神の南側を通る。
