anthropoid

...A general term for mammals belonging to the Pongidae family of the Hominoidea, suborder Anthropoidea, order Primates. In English, it is called anthropoid or ape, but the latter means tailless monkey, and can also be applied to monkeys with extremely short tails such as black macaques and Barbary monkeys. It consists of the Hylobatinae and Ponginae subfamilies, the former of which are called lesser apes and the latter great apes.
