A newly industrialized city located in the middle of Hunan Province, China, in the middle reaches of the Zishui River, along the Xiangqiang Railway (Zhuzhou - Guiyang). Population 330,000 (1994). It was incorporated as a city in 1969 in the mining and industrial district of Xinhua County. The tin mine in the north-northeast of the city is a large one that accounts for half of China's antimony reserves, and also produces iron, tin, and coal. 中国,湖南省の中部,資水の中流域,湘黔(しようけん)鉄道(株洲~貴陽)沿線にある新興工業都市。人口33万(1994)。1969年新化県の鉱工業地区に市制がしかれたもの。市の北北東にあるスズ鉱山は中国のアンチモニー埋蔵量の半分を占める大鉱山で,鉄,スズ,石炭も産する。市ではこれらを原料にして冶金,化学工業が発達している。【林 和生】
