Born: September 9, 1828, Catanzaro, Sanbiasse
Died June 13, 1894. Neapolitan politician. Active as a democrat in the Risorgimento movement. Wounded in the defense of the Roman Republic in 1849. In 1857, he attempted an expedition to Sapri with C. Pisacane to liberate southern Italy, but failed and was arrested. Released by G. Garibaldi in 1860, he worked with Garibaldi to liberate Rome and Venice, but after 1870 he became a royalist and was Minister of the Interior twice, from 1876 to 1877 and from 1891 to 1892, implementing authoritarian politics.

イタリアの政治家。リソルジメント運動で民主主義派として活躍。 1849年のローマ共和国防衛戦で負傷した。 57年 C.ピサカーネとともに南イタリア解放のためサプリ遠征を試みたが失敗，逮捕された。 60年 G.ガリバルディによって釈放され，以後彼に従ってローマ，ベネチアの解放に尽したが，70年以降王制派に転じて，76～77，91～92年の2度内相となり権力主義的政治を行なった。
