Nakanushi [town] - Chuzu
An old town in the Yasu River delta on the southeast shore of Lake Biwa, Yasu District, Shiga Prefecture. It produces Omi rice and cultivates vegetable gardens in greenhouses. Freshwater fishing is also carried out in Lake Biwa. It is home to the Hyozu Shrine Garden (a scenic spot) and the Lake Biwa Miami Swimming Pool. In 1993, Lake Biwa was registered as a Ramsar wetland. In October 2004, it merged with Yasu Town, Yasu District, to form Yasu City. 20.94 km2 . Population: 12,132 (2003).
