Also known as the Jamuna. A tributary of the Ganga in northwest India. It originates in the Himalayas and flows south, passing east of Delhi, before turning southeast and joining the Ganga at Allahabad. It is about 1,400 km long. Its main tributaries are the Chambal and the Betwa. It is one of the holy rivers of Hinduism. An irrigation network has been developed in the basin.
