Forestry office - Eirinsho

Japanese: 営林署 - えいりんしょ

A local branch office that was in charge of managing and operating national forests under the jurisdiction of the Forestry Agency. Based on Articles 31 and 34 of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Establishment Act (Act No. 153, 1949), it was placed under the Forestry Bureau and Forestry Branch Offices. It was established in 1925 when the Large and Small Forestry District Office Regulations (Imperial Ordinance No. 18, 1886) were amended to the Forestry Bureau Regulations (Imperial Ordinance No. 366, 1924). It was responsible for the planting and management of government-run forests such as national and public forests, the production and disposal of their products, and guidance on the planting and management of private forests. In spring 1899, the national forest business was reorganized, and the nine Forestry Bureaus and five Forestry Branch Offices were consolidated into seven Forest Management Bureaus, and the 229 Forest Management Offices were consolidated into 98 Forest Management Offices, 14 Branch Offices, and 8 Forest Management Offices.

林野庁が所管する国有林の管理・経営にあたっていた地方支分部局。農林水産省設置法 (昭和 24年法律 153号) 31条・34条に基づき，営林局，営林支局の下におかれていた。 1886年の大小林区署官制 (明治 19年勅令 18号) が 1925年営林局署官制 (大正 13年勅令 366号) に改められ設けられた機関である。国有林野および公有林野などの官行造林地の造林・営林を実施し，その産物，製品の生産および処分を行うほか，民有林野の造林・営林を指導していた。 99年春，国有林野事業の組織再編がなされ，9営林局と5営林支局は7森林管理局に，229営林署は 98森林管理署，14支署，8森林管理事務所に統廃合された。
