Himekodai (Princess small sea bream) - Chelidoperca hirundinacea
A marine fish of the Perciformes, Percidae family. Local names include Ellens (Kochi) and Iwashiganjii (Uchiura, Shizuoka Prefecture). It is distributed from southern Kanto to Kyushu and Taiwan. Its body is somewhat elongated, its lower jaw protrudes longer than its upper jaw, and its eyes are very large. The base color of the body is crimson, and in young fish, several elongated dark spots run in a vertical line along the lateral line, but as it grows, these gradually disappear, and in rare cases, one or two spots may remain. Total length is about 18 cm. It is a deep-sea fish, and is sometimes caught in large quantities by motorized bottom trawling in the Kumano Nada and off the coast of Tosa.

スズキ目スズキ科の海産魚。エレレンス(高知),イワシガンジイ(静岡県内浦)などの地方名がある。関東南部から九州,台湾にわたり分布。体はやや細長く,下あごは上あごより長く突出し,眼は非常に大きい。体の地色は朱紅色で,若年魚ではほぼ側線上に数個の細長い暗色斑紋が1縦列をなして走っているが,成長に伴ってしだいに消失し,まれには1~2個の斑紋が残る場合もある。全長18cm内外。深海性で,熊野灘や土佐沖あたりでは,機船底引網によりときにかなり多量漁獲されることがある。
