Ichikawa Suisen

Japanese: 市川翠扇 - いちかわすいせん

Actress. (1) 2nd generation (1881-1944, Meiji 14-Showa 19). Real name Horikoshi Jitsuko. Eldest daughter of Ichikawa Danjūrō 9th. She made her stage debut in 1888, and played the roles of her younger sister Fukiko (Ichikawa Kiyokubai 2nd) and Kocho in the premiere of Kagamijishi in 1893. In 1907, she took on the pen name of Danjūrō 2nd's wife Sai, and became Suisen 2nd. The following year, she appeared in Kesa to Morito at the Meijiza Theater, and later married Ichikawa Sanshō (who became the 10th Danjūrō after his death). (2) 3rd generation (1913-78, Taisho 2-Showa 53). Real name Horikoshi Takahisa.

女優。(1)2世(1881‐1944∥明治14‐昭和19)　本名堀越実子（じつこ）。9世市川団十郎の長女。1888年初舞台をふみ，93年《鏡獅子》初演の際，妹扶伎子（ふきこ）(2世市川旭梅（きよくばい）)と胡蝶をつとめた。1907年2世団十郎の妻さいの俳名を受けつぎ2世翠扇を襲名，翌年明治座の《袈裟と盛遠》に出演，のち市川三升（さんしよう）(没後10世団十郎となる)と結婚した。(2)3世(1913‐78∥大正2‐昭和53)　本名堀越貴久栄。
