A village in Abuta County, Shiribeshi Subprefecture, southwest Hokkaido. Population 2,388 (1995). Also called "Rusuttsu." Located at the southern foot of Mt. Yotei, it is one of the leading highland farming areas in Hokkaido. The central settlement is at an altitude of 374m, and National Route 230, which connects Sapporo and Lake Toya, passes through it, and branches off to Niseko Town. The first settlement was made in the early Meiji period, and around 1889 a farm was opened and development progressed rapidly. 北海道南西部,後志(しりべし)支庁虻田郡の村。人口2388(1995)。〈るすっつ〉ともいう。羊蹄山南麓に位置する,道内有数の高冷地畑作地帯である。中心集落は標高374mの地にあり,札幌と洞爺湖を結ぶ国道230号線が通り,ニセコ町への道を分岐する。最初の入植は明治初期に行われ,1889年ころには農場が開かれて急速に開拓が進んだ。ジャガイモ栽培とデンプン製造が盛んに行われ,デンプン用品種〈紅丸(べにまる)〉の発祥地とされている。
