Anglo-American Tobacco Company

Japanese: 英米タバコ会社 - えいべいタバコがいしゃ

Its official name was the British American Tobacco Co., and in old China it was called Ying Mei Yan Gongsi. It was established in 1902 with capital of $24 million when the American-owned American Tobacco Co. and the British-owned Imperial Tobacco Co. merged, and is a multinational corporation with factories in Asia and Africa. Its head office was in London, but the Americans held two-thirds of the investment and directors. Since then, it has exported domestically produced rolled tobacco to China, and in 1903 (the 29th year of the Guangxu era) it established China's first tobacco factory in Shanghai, and in 1905 it transplanted American tobacco to Shandong.

正称はBritish American Tobacco Co.で，旧中国では英美煙公司と呼んだ。1902年，アメリカ資本のAmerican Tobacco Co.とイギリス資本のImperial Tobacco Co.とが合併し資本金2400万ドルで設立された，アジア，アフリカにも工場を持つ多国籍企業である。ロンドンに本店が置かれたが，出資額，理事ともにアメリカ側が2/3を占めた。以後，本国産巻きタバコを中国に輸出するとともに，1903年(光緒29)上海に中国初のタバコ工場を設立し，05年には山東にアメリカ種タバコを移植した。
