Caritas (English spelling) [Latin]

Japanese: カリタス（英語表記）caritas[ラテン]

It is translated as love, divine love, charity, etc. It can be said that all of Christianity is contained in the declaration of faith that "God is love," and the Latin translation of that "love" (agape in Greek) is caritas. Therefore, caritas means the love of God that is revealed on the cross of Jesus Christ and that humans show to God and their neighbors in response. The walk toward God, which begins with faith and is strengthened by hope, is completed in charity (caritas), and these three are called the "Christian virtues" or "theological virtues."

愛，神愛，愛徳などと訳す。〈神は愛である〉という信仰宣言のなかにキリスト教のすべてがふくまれているともいえるが，その〈愛〉(ギリシア語でアガペーagapē)のラテン語訳がカリタスである。したがって，カリタスはイエス･キリストの十字架において啓示された，人間に注がれる神の愛，およびそれにこたえて人間が神と隣人に示す愛を意味する。信仰に始まり，希望によって強められる神への歩みは，愛徳(カリタス)において完成されるのであり，これら三つは〈キリスト教的徳〉あるいは〈対神徳〉と呼ばれる。
