...This is said to reflect the shape of the spires of Gothic architecture at the time. Other examples include the escoffion (a roll-shaped headgear that is turban-shaped or heart-shaped), the chaperon (a hood that hangs down to the shoulders), and the hood with a liripipe (a long, string-like hanging ornament), all of which were elaborately decorated with complex shapes and luxurious materials.

The beautiful designs of clothing and headgear from the Renaissance period can be seen in portraits of the time.
