Fuchu Five Mountains

Japanese:
Fuchu Five Mountains
A collective name for five temples of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect scattered around Tsutsujigasaki Mansion (Kofu City) built by Takeda Shintora. Shintora's son Harunobu looked up to the Rinzai sect Myoshinji monk Kishu Genpaku as his teacher, became a monk, took the name Shingen, and founded Chozenji for Genpaku. Shingen, who converted to Myoshinji Zen, moved and restored the four historic temples to the castle town and, together with Chozenji, called them the Fuchu Gozan, and gave the five temples special protection (during the Eiroku era). The four temples were originally Gozan school temples, but Shingen changed them to the Myoshinji school at this time, presumably because he wanted to cut ties with the Gozan school, which was under the control of the shogunate, and to use the Fuchu Gozan to control the temples within his domain.
