...The term Nazi is the plural form of Nazi, an abbreviation of National Socialist.
[From the founding of the party to the Munich Putsch]
On January 5, 1919, Anton Drexler (1884-1942), a finisher at the state railway central works in Munich, founded the German Workers' Party with 24 fellow workers, and became its leader, with the aim of winning over workers to nationalist, anti-Marxist, and anti-Semitic positions. Initially called the German Workers' Party, Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, it received support from the counter-revolutionary association Thulle Gesellschaft through the intermediation of Haller, a sports reporter for the Munich-Augsburg Evening Newspaper, and its activities were limited to small speech rallies in accordance with Haller's policies.
