This is a play from the Yue Opera, a regional Chinese drama. In Peking Opera, it is called "Zhu Yingtai". It is one of the most representative Yue Opera plays, which often feature love stories between men and women. It is a tragic love story between Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. It is popular as the Chinese version of "Romeo and Juliet" and has also been made into a movie under the title "Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai". Sharing the same academic aspirations, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, disguised as a man, swear to be brothers and study at a private school in Hangzhou. When Yingtai returns home, she hints at her love for Shanbo as a woman. Later, realizing Shanbo's true intentions, he goes to pick Yingtai up, but as she is already engaged, he falls ill and dies in despair. On the day of her marriage, when Yingtai visits the tomb dressed as a bride, the tomb suddenly splits and Yingtai is sucked into it. This is based on an old folk tale in which two butterflies flutter down after the tomb.
