Liao San Cai (English spelling)

Liao San Cai (English spelling)
Sancai pottery was fired in the Liao Dynasty of the Khitan people, who founded a state in northeastern China. As a nomadic people, the Khitan people did not of course have a pottery industry, but after awakening to national consciousness and establishing their state in 916, they sought to absorb Chinese culture and improve their culture, abducting potters from northern China to their territory and having them build kilns. The dry tile kiln near Chifeng City, Liaoning Province, is a representative kiln, and Liao sancai pottery was fired here. It dates back to the 1060s in the late Liao Dynasty, but it is believed that monochrome green-glazed and brown-glazed pottery were already being fired in the 10th century.
