This list of donors was published to reward those who donated to the starving after the severe crop failure caused by the locust infestation in western Japan in 1732 (Kyoho 17). In 1732, two volumes were published covering only the Shogunate's territory, followed by a supplementary edition in 1736 (Genbun 1). In the early modern period, it was customary for public and private entities to donate to the starving during disasters. In particular, in urban societies where mass starvation occurs during famines, the Kyoho famine led to the development of organized donations by wealthy townspeople. For this reason, following the example of the Jinpu Ichiran, the Jinpu Benran was published in Osaka in 1837 (Tenpo 8) and the Jinpu Shuran in Kyoto in 1867 (Keio 3).
