Nanryu Tanabe

Japanese: 田辺南竜 - たなべなんりゅう

He has been a storyteller since the end of the Edo period, and the 2nd and 5th generations are well known. (1) The 1st generation: His birth and death years are unknown, but he was known as a master of military tales. (2) The 2nd generation (?-1884 (Meiji 17)): He excelled in both military tales and casual storytelling, and was nicknamed "Nonnon no Nanryu" (Nonnon no Nanryu) due to his catchphrase "Nonnon no zuizui." (3) The 5th generation (1878-1954 (Meiji 11-Showa 29): His real name was Sekigawa Shotaro. He switched from the school of the 3rd generation Takarai Bakin to that of Hayakawa Teimizu, and at the age of 29 he took on the name of the 5th generation, devoting himself to the revival of the Tanabe school. He was good at stories such as "Gishi Den," "Taikoki," and "Meigetsu Wakamatsu Castle."

江戸末期以来の講談師で，2代と5代が著名である。(1)初代　生没年不詳だが軍談の大家として知られた。(2)2代(？‐1884(明治17))　軍談，世話講談ともによくし，〈のんのんずいずい〉という口ぐせから，〈のんのんの南竜〉とよばれた。(3)5代(1878‐1954∥明治11‐昭和29)　本名関川正太郎。3代宝井馬琴門から早川貞水の門に転じ，29歳で5代を襲名，田辺派の再興に尽くす。《義士伝》《太閤記》《名月若松城》などが得意だった。
