He has been a storyteller since the end of the Edo period, and the 2nd and 5th generations are well known. (1) The 1st generation: His birth and death years are unknown, but he was known as a master of military tales. (2) The 2nd generation (?-1884 (Meiji 17)): He excelled in both military tales and casual storytelling, and was nicknamed "Nonnon no Nanryu" (Nonnon no Nanryu) due to his catchphrase "Nonnon no zuizui." (3) The 5th generation (1878-1954 (Meiji 11-Showa 29): His real name was Sekigawa Shotaro. He switched from the school of the 3rd generation Takarai Bakin to that of Hayakawa Teimizu, and at the age of 29 he took on the name of the 5th generation, devoting himself to the revival of the Tanabe school.
