Ippongi Shell Mound

...There are six small shell mounds, each about 1m in diameter, made of Yamato Shijimi shells. In 1919, a small-scale survey was carried out on a part of the site, then called the Ipponki Shell Mound, but several excavations were carried out between 1951 and 1954, uncovering the remains of a rectangular pit dwelling with six pillar holes and a hearth, a cave, a flask-shaped pit, and a stone tool workshop. The pottery is considered to be a type of material dating to the end of the Early Jomon period in this region, and was named the Fukiura style. ...

…遺跡にはヤマトシジミの貝殻からなる直径1mほどの小さな貝塚が6ヵ所ほど分布する。1919年，当時一本木貝塚とよばれた遺跡の一部について小規模な調査が行われたが，51‐54年に数回にわたって発掘調査が行われ，平面長方形で6本の柱穴をもち炉を伴う竪穴住居跡，洞穴，フラスコ状の竪穴，石器製作所などを検出した。土器はこの地方の縄文時代前期末の標式資料とされ，吹浦式と命名された。…
