In 1919, a small-scale survey was carried out on a part of the site, then called the Ipponki Shell Mound, but several excavations were carried out between 1951 and 1954, uncovering the remains of a rectangular pit dwelling with six pillar holes and a hearth, a cave, a flask-shaped pit, and a stone tool workshop.
